Sundays in bed with is a meme hosted by Midnight Book Girl but I came across it recently on Jill’s Book Blog. It is simply a chance to share the book that is by your bed at the moment (or that you wish was by your bed). This week, the book is The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant
As a long time lover of Les Miserables, i can’t believe that it’s taken me so long to read this book. It’s classed as fantasy but is almost Historical Fiction and is a alternative retelling of Les Mis but without Marius
Blurb:
In the violent urban jungle of an alternate 1828 Paris, the French Revolution has failed and the city is divided between merciless royalty and nine underworld criminal guilds, known as the Court of Miracles. Eponine (Nina) Thénardier is a talented cat burglar and member of the Thieves Guild. Nina’s life is midnight robberies, avoiding her father’s fists, and watching over her naïve adopted sister, Cosette (Ettie).
When Ettie attracts the eye of the Tiger–the ruthless lord of the Guild of Flesh–Nina is caught in a desperate race to keep the younger girl safe. Her vow takes her from the city’s dark underbelly to the glittering court of Louis XVII. And it also forces Nina to make a terrible choice–protect Ettie and set off a brutal war between the guilds, or forever lose her sister to the Tiger.
This is Eponine’s story. She is the Black Cat of the Thieves Guild and can steal anything from anywhere including part of the crown jewels from around the neck of the Dauphin. She is a brilliantly written character and I am absolutely loving this story so far.
I’ve only watched the movie for Les Miserables and I just love the music. I should read the book. Nice review
This book is great!! I really loved it, hope you enjoy it!
Sounds good. I haven’t yet read Les Mis but I will keep note of this one to get to when I do
