Book Blogger Hop July 15

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, it was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy @ the Ramblings of a coffee addict. . Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This weeks question is:  Do you listen to audiobooks? If so, do you prefer listening instead of reading? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

I don’t listen to audio books at all. I read either physical books or ebooks and it’s a relaxation activity for me.

I know a lot of people listen to audio books while they are driving or exercising but I will generally listen to music at those times instead.

One thing that puts me off audiobooks is how long they are. The library sent me an audiobook by mistake once and I think it was something like 10 hours long.

I do like the idea of having the story read to me and I’ve heard great things about some audio versions so it might well be something that I will come to at some point.

  1. When I first began listening to audiobooks, I also found them long. I rarely listen to them at normal speed, I usually listen at 1.5. I listen when I am going other things such as laundry, dishes, gardening, driving etc. so it works for me. I am the first to say that they will not be for everyone though.

  2. I like audiobooks when I have to drive by myself for long distances or mow the yard (we have a huge yard) or if I’m on a walk by myself. I to increase the speed to 1.3 to 1.5 and that helps with the length. But, I mostly read ebooks.

  3. It depends if an audiobook takes longer then to just read the book. Narrators can be a hit or miss when listening to audiobooks.

    1. I definitely get that. It must be like listening to the radio. Some presenters I really enjoy listening to but the voices of some others just irritate me

  4. I’m not much for audiobooks. I used to listen to them when I had a longer commute. Now, though, I don’t often spend enough time on my drive to work to make them worthwhile. And when I’m home with the family, I don’t want to shut myself away from them with headphones. So, physical books it is!

Stop by and see what I’m reading!

  5. I think audiobooks, like most things, cannot be forced when it’s not hitting the spot for you. Some audiobooks I simply cannot focus on, while with others I’m obsessed and hyperfocused for hours. I do agree that books take a lot longer in audio versions than if I were to read them myself, but sometimes that’s part of the joy as well for me! I hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

  6. I love listening to Memoirs but I cannot listen to any other type of book! I also do the 2x speed and that helps cut down on the time. I only started listening to memoirs a couple of years ago.
