Top 5 Tuesday – Books with Swords

Welcome to this week’s Top 5 Tuesday post. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, and it is now being hosted at Meeghan reads!! For details of all of the prompts for July to September see Meeghans page here.

For August, we’re back doing scavenger hunts for books with particular themes. I love this as it often reminds me of books that I had completely forgotten about. This week should be a fairly easy one to find as we’re looking for books with swords and I can immediately think of several! This theme really is a gift to any lover of epic fantasy or historical fiction.

I’m trying not to duplicate series that I used last week for the crowns theme so George Martin’s A Storm of Swords won’t appear 😢

I could probably have done this whole post with retellings of the Arthur legend. After all, Excalibur is probably one of the most famous swords ever. However, I just picked this brilliant retelling by Mary Stewart. Definitely one of my favourite trilogies ever.

Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive is only halfway through but this first volume is brilliant.

This is another series that is only half way through publication although apparently all the volumes have been written. I’m not enjoying it quite as much as the Riyria Chronicles as the characters aren’t quite as vivid but it’s still a good read.

Dawnthief is the first book in The Chronicles of the Raven and this is another superb series about a group of very disparate people on a quest. Definitely a great example of the found family theme as they grow together over the series.

I couldn’t have a collection of books about swords without including one by the sadly missed David Gemmell. I loved all of his heroic fantasy books.

That’s my choice of books with swords. What would yours be?
