The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, it was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy @ the Ramblings of a coffee addict. . Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
This weeks question is: Do you prefer to read in a quiet or noisy setting? (Submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer))
I actually don’t like sitting in silence. It makes me feel uncomfortable so I generally have the radio or some music on whenever I am reading. I think it stems from childhood when my parents always had the radio tuned to a music station or had records playing. I don’t actually listen to the music if I’m reading and often couldn’t tell you what was playing but it’s nice to have it in the background.
I do find it really hard to read while the TV is on though. If my husband is watching something, then I will have to go into another room to read as I find the sports commentary or dialogue in a film really distracting.
What about you? Do you need a quiet place to read.
I cannot read if there is noise, especially if there’s a TV on or music playing. I get distracted too easily and cannot focus on the book.
When I’m in the car I always have the radio on. That comes from childhood on long car trips where my parents always have the radio on.
I perfer to read in a quit setting but I can read when there a lot of noise.
I like some background noise whenever I read, but lately I’ve found I get too distracted if it’s music because I end up tuning into it too often
I’m not very picky – I can read anywhere, regardless of noise level đŸ˜‡ I’ll simply tune out whatever is going on in the background. However, I would never purposefully turn on music with lyrics/other audio with text while reading because once I show the slightest interest in that background noise, I will inevitably get distracted and forget about my book instead đŸ˜‚
I generally prefer silence, but usually I can read if my husband has the TV on. However, there are some YouTube creators whose voices just break through my concentration; so if that’s the case I have to leave the room.
I don’t mind complete silence. I read pretty good with the TV on, as long as it’s not something I’m interested in.
I can tune out some TV (football) I think I’m a mix of both
I prefer quiet when reading, unless it’s very low background kind of music.
I prefer the quiet; I guess light music wouldn’t be too distracting, but definitely no TV. I can’t handle that when reading.
I can totally tune out a tv. That’s very easy for me.
I prefer the quiet. If it’s not quiet I get distracted to easy.
I feel similarly. My parents always had the TV on growing up, so I don’t often read in total silent. I like ambient noise like a coffee shop sounds video or fireplace sounds. I have trouble reading when my husband watches TV, though. Too much distraction!
