OK, I know that I’m a bit late to this party as we’re nearly two weeks past the end of June but I’ve been away and it’s hot and I’ve only just caught up with myself. This tag doesn’t appear to have a creator but if you thought up the idea, then a huge thank you. It’s just a time to look back at the past six months and see what’s been good and look forward to even more amazing books to come. So here goes with my mid-year freak out.
What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2022?
This is always such a hard choice as I’ve read some brilliant books. I’m going to go with two of my favourites, both fantasy.
I absolutely loved both of these but there have been so many amazing books so far this year.
What has been your favourite sequel of the first half of the year?
I really loved this sequel to Mask of Mirrors and can’t wait for the end to the trilogy to be published.
Is there a new release that you haven’t read yet but you’re really excited to?
I love this thriller/crime series featuring Washington Poe and can’t wait to read this latest book. Hopefully it’s going to arrive at my library very soon.
What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
The last Vera Stanhope murder mystery was published in Autumn 2020 and so it’s been a long while to wait. Luckily, this next one is due to be published in September so not long now.
What is your biggest disappointment so far?
I really didn’t get all of the hype surrounding this one. I know lots of people but I couldn’t relate to the plot or characters at all.
What is your biggest surprise so far?
I knew that Ed McDonald’s previous fantasy series was very grim and dark and so was really surprised by how much I enjoyed Daughter of Redwinter.
Favourite book to movie adaptation this year?
I haven’t seen any movie adaptations this year. I’ve seen Bridgerton but hadn’t read the book so that doesn’t really count. I’ve seen the trailers for Where The Crawdads Sing and I wasn’t at all sure if I want to see it or not. It looks very different to the book.
Who is your fictional crush from this year?
I don’t really have one.
Who is your new favourite character?
Miscellaneous (Lanie) Stones from Saint Death’s Daughter and Iona from The People on Platform 5 are two of my favourite characters that I’ve met this year.
A book that made you happy?
A book that made you cry?
No spoilers here but as usual, Jenny Colgan doesn’t write happy ever after endings for all of her characters and one character definitely had a story line that brought tears to my eyes.
What are your anticipated reads for the second half of 2022?
These are the three books that I am definitely really looking forward to reading later on this year.
That’s my mid-year freak out. What have you enjoyed most this year and what are you looking forward to reading later on in 2022?
